Gerardo Vizmanos
November 5 – November 18, 2013
Opening Reception. November 7, 6-8pm
We can have an incorrect
identity but we are not allowed to have no identity, we are not permitted to
exist being “no one”. "NoOne" proposes to think on the mechanisms we
use to build our identities and on the conflicts with personal freedom taking
into account the striking fact that the image we have of ourselves is actually
an unreal picture, a reversed version from what others see from us. We spend
all our live with ourselves and we never meet ourselves.
"NoOne"
is a reflex game of self-portraits that introduces physical elements such as
point of view, perspective and relationship with the others to question philosophical
ideas of essentialist interpretations of perception to show that coercion is a relevant
part of the identities´ construction.
